National Justice For Animals Week is dedicated to raising awareness of animal abuse and teaching what we can do to help stop it. This includes how to report it, how to help in your community, and how to work towards stronger laws and enforcement. To honor this, WiggleLess wanted to highlight some of our favorite organizations that are supporting animals, and also suggest ways you can help to educate and raise awareness in YOUR area so that no animals are ever abused! Every single day there are ways to advocate for animals by donating, volunteering, and helping to raise awareness.
Ventura County Animal Services helps more than 10,000 animals each year. A cornerstone of the organization that makes them stand out is their focus on reuniting lost pets and their owners. Alongside this, the service also works at finding forever homes for as many animals as possible. Another highlight of this shelter is their no-kill policy. Although this is exceptional and idyllic for any shelter, more animals to care for means the need for more funds. This is a great place that deserves all the support and attention it can get, and hopefully, we can help bring some awareness they so rightfully deserve!
There are tons of different ways you can show your support for the Ventura County Animal Shelter. The simplest way to do this is by donating through their PayPal account. If you’re looking for a different option, the organization has partnered up with Amazon Smiles. Through this program, Amazon will donate .5% of your sales to the shelter. Another option on Amazon is to check out the shelter’s wish list and donate items they are in need of. This is a great way to make an impact instantly. Providing a dog bed or bag of food shows you care and gives the dos something to wag their tail about. Do you live in an area that has Ralph’s grocery store? By becoming a member of Ralph’s Community Contribution Program, you help make a change and you don’t have to spend a penny. There are options for everyone, but if you’re looking for something different to do, check out ways to give!
Another important organization in the area is The Humane Society of Ventura County The Humane Society provides a safe place for animals and addresses the larger issue of overpopulation, abuse, and neglect. They are fully funded by donations, sponsorships, and memorial programs. WiggleLess dogs Ryder, LaVerne, and Chai were all adopted here!
At the Humane Society, there are always programs being run to raise money, such as the kennel campaign. The current kennels are over 35 years old, and with this campaign, the hope is to build state-of-the-art kennels where they will be able to shelter more animals, and to a higher standard. One fundraiser that deserves the spotlight is Tiles for Tails. By buying a tile at Firefly Ceramics, you can decorate a tile which will be displayed beside others at the shelter. Ranging from $20-$25 dollars, you have the option of decorating and signing your name on a tile, or letting your furry friend stamp their paw print.
If you’re not able to donate financially, don’t worry! There are opportunities for everyone to get involved. An easy way to make a difference is to share on your social media platforms. It can be as simple as tagging your favorite organization in an Instagram picture or sending them a tweet showing them love. Be sure to use hashtags to get your voice heard too. Most organizations have their own social media account where they use hashtags and stories they want to be shared. Make sure you check it out so you too can be using those hashtags and help create awareness. In support of Animals for Justice Week, you can use #NJFAW, #Justice4Animals, and/or #aldf. Supporters are also changing profile pictures temporarily. Every little thing can help make a difference!
Setting up a fundraiser is the perfect way to get involved. It doesn’t have to be a grand event, it can be as easy and fun, like hosting a dog wash for your neighborhood friends. Another unique idea is to have a bake sale. To put a special spin on it, try offering both human treats and dog-friendly baked goods. Pets and their people can enjoy a fun event together, and support your organization too! If you’re looking for something bigger, check out mud runs. A mud run can get the whole family involved, including your pets. The dogs can play in the mud while you and your family run and raise money!
After planning an event, the next big step is to spread the word. Be sure to reach out to the organization and ask them to share your event information. This is something they will more than likely be happy to do! It will help you reach a wider audience, and grow interest in your fundraiser. Lastly, but equally as important, register your event on an online platform as a nonprofit fundraiser. Doing this can help you grow your event and make managing and planning easier.
